Tennis Elbow

TENNIS ELBOW
Unaccustomed use of extensor muscles of forearm injuries the common extensor origin at the lateral epicondyle of humerus.
Damage is followed by adhesions, which binds the tendon to which joint capsule.
Since this commonly occur while playing tennis, this condition is termed "Tennis elbow"
CLINICAL FEATURES-
Patients are generally young individuals who complain of pain at the elbow especially during pouring of tea or turning the handle of the door etc.
Localised tenderness over the lateral epicondyle of the humerus can be elicited.
Management-
Rest to the elbow- either in a sling or a cast.
Local injection of anaesthesia and hydrocortisone.
Operation- when other measures fail surgically extensor muscle is detached from lateral epicondyle or any extrapment of nerve within a muscle is released.
